The Department of Psychology at University of Victoria, Canada invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the area of social psychology at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
In accordance with the university’s equity plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, the selection for this position will be limited to members of visible minorities and Indigenous persons. The position is preferably for an individual with background and specialization in intergroup attitudes and relations, stereotyping and prejudice, stigmatization, cultural psychology, social identity, social justice, or other related fields in social psychology. But applications from individuals with background in different social psychology subfields are welcome. We also value scholars who can contribute with their research and teaching to the diversity of perspectives (e.g., sociocultural, social neuroscience, evolutionary, constructivist) and methodology (e.g., quantitative and qualitative methods, community-based research, “big data” research, ecologically valid designs and measures, Indigenous methodologies, etc.) in social psychology, as well as those who are interested in the reasonable use of transparent, reproducible, and replicable research practices. Finally, we would like a scholar who can bring the perspective from a visible minority or indigenous person to their teaching and research.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in social psychology or closely related psychology sub-fields (e.g., cultural psychology, personality psychology) at the time of appointment and demonstrate research excellence as evidenced by publications, conference presentations, community engagement, and grant funding appropriate to level of experience. Applicants must also present evidence for potential excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. This position will require the teaching of both large introductory undergraduate courses and small advanced seminars in social psychology, as well as classes in their subject of expertise. Postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience is desirable.
