Student rooms in private or semi-private apartments are available at London Hall. Visit the London Hall conference website for more details. Conference rates are available for bookings until  Weds 19th June, 12 noon (local time).

For other hotels, guesthouses, apartments etc., try Trip Advisor or trivago. For cheaper accommodation, try HostelWorld or AirBnB.

If you are travelling alone and don’t mind sharing, and are in a position to do so, we also gratefully receive ‘donations’ of a spare bed in a twin room to help with financial costs for people who may struggle to attend the conference otherwise.

Flight advice for higher-weight individuals

There is a Facebook group called Flying While Fat, started by activist Stacy Bias. You may be able to get some tips and ideas here. Also, the website Seat Guru allows you to find out details of seats, widths, leg room, access and other issues by airline and plane type.

The conference venue is accessible to disabled users, and the rooms we have booked have free-standing arm-less chairs and tables. Please contact us if you have any concerns or requests.

If you are driving to Western, please see below for further information.

Getting to/around London

For information on travel from Toronto Pearson Airport and around London, please click here.

Parking for the event will be at Huron Flats. You can view (and download) the Western University parking map here. We have arranged a conference rate of $8 for the two days. Simply collect a ticket when you park, then come to the Parking desk next to Registration and we will give you a discounted pass. You will need to scan this when you leave the car park. Note, you will need a credit card to pay when you exit.

If you are likely to have difficulty getting from Huron Flats to London Hall, please email us at stigmaconf@gmail.com or use the contact form on this site. We will send somebody to collect you.

Food options

We’ve also put together a list of a few eateries you might like to check out while you’re here. Click here for more info.

Things to do in London

If you find yourself with a bit of free time before or after the conference and are unsure of what to do, there are plenty of options to have fun and explore London. Covent Garden market is open 7 days a week and has farmers’ markets on Thursdays and Saturday.  Right by the market is the Museum London for art and culture. There are open-air free movies in Victoria Park in the evenings. Check out what’s showing at london.ca/outdoormovies. For something a bit different, try axe throwing at BATL (Backyard Axe Throwing League) or enjoy a game of bowling at Palasad Social Bowl. Satisfy your inner-kid by visiting the Rec Room in Masonville Mall for an upgraded arcade experience or enjoy a live theatre performance at the Grande Theatre in downtown London. More of an outdoorsy type? London has wonderful walking/biking trails that are beautiful to explore in the summer months, as well as multiple public parks (e.g., Victoria Park nestled in downtown London; Harris Park that is bordered by the Thames River).
